International Conference on Visual Coding, York University, North York,
Ontario, June 20-24, 1995
The conference will be devoted to the topic of Visual coding. This is a very
active area of enquiry in vision science and we have invited 17 of the leading
scientists from several counties to speak. Each will speak for 40 minutes
and there will be two discussion sessions. We have selected a group of
leading electrophysiologists to review the present state of knowledge
about the coding of visual information at the neuronal level and at the
level of cell assemblies. Some of these speakers have opposed views about
the channeling of visual information in the nervous system and we will
encourage them to debate the issues. A group of leading psychophysicists
will review and assess the behavioural evidence bearing on mechanisms of
visual coding and will relate their findings to the physiological evidence.
A group of computer scientists will expound on the latest developments in
neural modelling and computer simulations.
The conference will be organized into thirteen quarter-day sessions, each
devoted to a specific subtopic. There will be a large area for posters and
we will encourage people, including graduate students, to display the
results of their recent research. The Speaker are: S. Anstis, S. Dickinson,
G. Dudek, D. Fleet, P. Lennie, D. Levi, J. Maunsell, W. Merigan, A. Movshon,
V. Ramachandran, P. Schiller, M. Morgan, C. Nothdurft, E. Rolls, C. Tyler,
D. Regan and R. Wurtz.
