READERSHIP AND TWO LECTURESHIPS IN VISION

Department of Vision Sciences
Aston University, Birmingham, UK

Following the appointment of Professor David Foster to the Headship of
the Department of Vision Sciences from September 1995, opportunities
have arisen for three new appointments: one Readership and two
Lectureships.

The Department, which operates the largest undergraduate optometry
programme in the UK, has multidisciplinary groups working in visual
psychophysics and computational modelling, clinical electrophysiology
and functional imaging (magnetoencephalography), and ophthalmic and
physiological optics. Outstanding research facilities are available and
there is scope for a wide range of collaborations, including
theoretical, computational, experimental, clinical, and applied work.
The principal criterion in the selection will be the quality of the
candidate's research, and those with interests and expertise in the
areas of visual psychophysics, computational modelling,
electrophysiology, and optometry are particularly encouraged to apply.
For the Readership, ability to attract research funding and evidence of
research leadership will be advantageous. One of the Lectureships will
be in optometry. There are no constraints on applicants' initial field
of training, which could be in physics, psychology, computer science,
engineering, medicine, optometry, or related disciplines.

Continuing appointments are available at Reader level for applicants
with proven research ability. Appointment of Lecturers is normally for
an initial three-year term with the possibility of renewal or transfer
to continuing appointment.

Salaries will be in accordance with the University's scales: in the
range 27,018 to 30,533 (exceptionally 33,007) pounds sterling per annum
for Readers; in the range 14,756 to 25,735 (exceptionally 28,756) pounds
sterling per annum for Lecturers.
