A postdoctoral position is available in the Bard
Laboratories of the Mind/Brain Institute, Johns Hopkins
University. This research program investigates the neural
basis of visual perception, using the methods of single unit
recording in behaving monkey, psychophysics, and modeling.
Our current research is focused on the relationship between
contour and surface representations, specifically of the
attributes of color and depth. We are starting a new
research project on visual object representation which will
focus on possible mechanisms of feature binding. We use
single- as well as multi-electrode recording techniques, and
Silicon Graphics workstations for visual stimulus
generation. The Bard Labs have other very active groups
working on the parietal cortex and the somatosensory system,
also in behaving monkey, and a neuroanatomical group focused
on the visual system. The institute is expanding research in
systems neuroscience. We have good relationships with groups
studying visual perception and cognition in experimental
psychology on the campus. Requirements are PhD or
equivalent, special interest in vision or perception, and
experience in neuron recording. Salary depending on
experience. The Johns Hopkins University is an Equal
Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
Please send CV, short statement of interests, and names of
references. I will also be interviewing candidates at the
ARVO meeting, please contact the placement service.
