EIGHTH EUROPEAN CONFERENCE ON EYE MOVEMENTS

PROVISIONAL PROGRAMME AND REGISTRATION FEES
Venue
The conference will be held at the main University site at Kedleston Road,
Derby. It has many new conference facilities including new lecture
theatres, restaurant and accommodation.
Accommodation
Accommodation is available at one of the Universitys new student halls, a
short distance from the lecture theatres (transport will be provided). The
majority of rooms have shared bathroom and kitchen facilities but there are
a limited number of en-suite rooms available. Alternatively hotel
accommodation can be arranged.
Location
Derby is a large city located in the heart of England. Derbys industrial
heritage includes Rolls Royce and Royal Crown Derby. It is a good base for
exploring the many attractions in central England including the Peak
District National Park and the several historic stately homes such as
Chatsworth House.
Travel to Derby
By air: East Midlands International Airport is half an hour from Derby city
centre. Manchester International Airport and Birmingham International
Airport are two hours and one hour away respectively by car or train.
By train: There are fast rail services from most parts of the UK to Derby.
Those arriving by air in London (Heathrow or Gatwick) can catch the train to
Derby and arrive in one and a half hours.
By road: The UK has a vast road network and Derby is easily reached being
close to the M1 motorway.
Conference Timetable
Delegates should arrive on the morning of Wednesday 6 September as the
conference will begin after lunch. Scientific sessions will then take place
on Wednesday afternoon, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 9 September with the
conference finishing after lunch on Saturday.
Exhibition
A relevant trade exhibition will be held at the conference. Further
information on exhibiting can be obtained from the Conference Secretariat.
Conference Proceedings
Selected and edited conference proceedings will be published. Previous
conferences have been published by Elsevier Science Publishers BV (North
Holland).

CONFERENCE FEES
All registration fees include lunches and coffee/tea from Wednesday 6th -
Saturday 9th September.
Accommodation - ensuite rooms at the Universitys student halls are limited
and bookings will be made on a 'first come first served basis'. Breakfast
will be served in the restaurant area at the University. Transport each
morning will be provided. Alternatively hotel accommodation can be booked
separately, note that this must be done through the Destination Derby
address on the booking form.
The social events arranged for the conference are entirely optional.
Pre-booking is recommended as places may become limited.

SOCIAL PROGRAMME
Wednesday Evening
Civic Reception
This will be hosted by Derby City Council and will be held in the centre of
Derby, 7-8pm.
Cost: FREE
After the civic reception there will be a social evening at the Royal
Banqueting Suite in Derby. A buffet meal and entertainment will be provided.

Thursday Evening
Trip to Derby Museums/Historic House followed by meal & beer tasting at the
Mackworth Hotel
We are offering the following options:
A. Visit to Kedleston Hall and garden (with guided tour of the house).
Kedleston Hall, set in landscaped parkland was built in the 1760s by
Nathaniel Curzon. The house design is based on the villas of Italian
architect Palladio. The left hand pavilion is occupied by the Curzon family
and houses their collection 18th century furniture and paintings.
Cost: 10 pounds
B. Visit to Derby Museum and Art Gallery (guided tour). This illustrates
the history, art and natural environment of Derby and the surrounding area.
It includes paintings by the celebrated 18th Century artist Joseph Wright
and displays of the famous Crown Derby Porcelain.
Cost: FREE
C. Visit to Pickford's House. The house at 42 Friar Gate was built by the
prominent architect Joseph Pickford as his home and business premises. You
will see how people lived in the Georgian era. Each room depicts domestic
life as it was then.
Cost: FREE
After a visit to one of the above museums, we will then take a short bus
ride to the Mackworth Hotel on the edge of Derby. A hot buffet will be
provided and also included is an opportunity to sample a variety of real
English ales.

Friday Evening
Conference Dinner
The cost includes 4 course dinner, coffee, drinks and transport. There will
be entertainment provided by a local group of Morris Dancers.
Cost: 27.50 pounds
PAYMENT
Payment should be made either by cheque or bankers draft in Pounds Sterling,
drawn on a British bank and made payable to University of Derby and sent to
the mailing address. Please note: the conference has no facilities for
handling credit cards.
