DEAN
COLLEGE OF OPTOMETRY
THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY
The Ohio State University invites nominations and applications for the
position of Dean of the College of Optometry. Ohio State is the major land
grant, teaching-research University in the State of Ohio. The College of
Optometry is part of one of the most comprehensive Health Sciences Centers in
the nation along with the Colleges of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy,
Veterinary Medicine, the School of Allied Medical Professions, and the School
of Public Health.
The Dean is the chief academic, administrative, and fiscal officer of the
College. The College faculty are committed to excellence in professional and
graduate education, research, and service. The College provides professional
education to 244 students and graduate education to 25 students through
degree programs leading to the OD degree in Optometry and graduate programs
leading to the Master's and PhD degrees in Physiological Optics.
Requirements for this position include an OD or its equivalent and a record
of scholarly achievement that warrants eligibility for appointment at the
rank of full professor in the College. A PhD is highly desirable.
Qualifications include a distinguished record in teaching, research, and
clinical experience; demonstrated excellence in leadership, administration,
and resource development; a clear record of effective commitment to and
support of cultural and ethnic diversity; a vision for the role of optometry
in a changing health care environment; and a clear understanding of the
teaching mission and the balance of teaching and research. Candidates'
records should provide strong evidence of abilities to relate to and work
effectively and collaboratively with faculty, University administration, and
other constituent groups both within and outside the University, and to
sustain an environment in which the quality of education, research, and
service are fostered. Salary and other considerations will be consistent
with the commitment of The Ohio State University to recruit a highly
qualified individual to this position.
To assure full consideration, applications and nominations should be received
by December 15, 1995. The Search Committee will begin screening dossiers
