The School of Psychology at the University of New South Wales has a
tenurable position in perception as a result of the pending retirement of
Dr Keith Llewellyn. The University is approximately four kilometres from
the centre of Sydney and two kilometres from Coogee Beach. The University
of New South Wales is one of Australia's premier universities as indicated,
for example, by the fact that it has for a number of years now received the
greatest share of any Australian university of grant funds from the
Australian Research Council (Australia's equivalent of NSF). The University
has both a Medical School and an Optometry School and is strong in
Engineering and Computer Science.
The School of Psychology is in the Faculty of Biological and Behavioural
Sciences and has a strong tradition in Experimental Psychology. There are
approximately 38 graduate students.
A second position is available in cognitive psychology which could be in

Salary: Lecturer $42,198-$50,111 per annum; Senior Lecturer $51,692-$59,605
per annum.
Level of appointment and commencement salary are dependent on
qualifications and experience.
The School of Psychology has a record of excellence in research,
undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and research supervision. The
academic staff hold substantial research grants from the major nationally
competitive funding agencies, and entry by students into the undergraduate
Bachelor of Science (Psychology) and the postgraduate Master of Psychology
(Applied), Master of Psychology (Clinical), and PhD programs is highly
competitive.
The School is adding to its strengths by making several appointments at the
level of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer. A PhD in Psychology and demonstrable
achievements or potential in teaching and research will be essential for
successful applicants. A knowledge and understanding of EO/AA principles is
required.
Applications are invited from those with expertise in one or more of the
following areas: clinical psychology (particularly with a focus on children
and adolescents), cognitive psychology, developmental psychology,
organisational psychology, perception, personality, psychometrics, research
methods, and social psychology. Applicants should specify clearly the area
or areas that best describes their expertise. Also, they should state
whether they wish to be considered for appointment at Lecturer and/or
Senior Lecturer level.
The positions will involve contributing to the undergraduate teaching,
postgraduate teaching, and research supervision. It is expected that the
successful applicants will develop active research programs and obtain
external funding of those programs.
Appointment will either be with tenure or on the basis of a contract with
provision for conversion to tenure.
