Subject: do you use TeX/LaTeX on Mac or PC clone?
To: CVNet <cvnet@skivs.ski.org>

I was wondering if anyone on CVNet uses TeX or LaTeX on Mac or PC clone
to write papers. I am thinking of moving over to that (to make my
machines Microsoft-free, to make documents that are portable across
platforms, for support of scientific document requirements e.g.
equation formatting & numbering). Word processors are getting bigger and
clunkier and still are as far as ever from meeting scientific document prep
needs. It would have a large influence on my decision if I could
have access to papers written in LaTeX for vision research journals:
JOSA A
Vision Research
Perception
Perception & Psychophysics
Are these available anywhere?

As I understand it, LaTeX doesn't support endnotes out-of-the-box, but it
does with an add-on package. Are the JOSA-style endnotes possible? I
mean notes like:
1-11
"as everybody knows blah blah..."

I was also wondering how easy it is to include postscript (or other format)
figures.

At this point I know almost nothing about LaTeX. Any advice or pointers
welcomed! I would especially welcome comments from people who have tried
LaTeX and given up in disgust, since most people who use it are rabid fans.

Thanks very much for any help.
