The 1996 Annual Meeting of the Optical Society in Rochester
will take place from October 20-25. The Abstract Deadline
is April 24. Four items of note:
1. **** Young Investigator Award *****
OSA will present a "Young Investigator Award" (the exact title is
yet to be determined) for the best paper or poster presented by a
student or postdoc at the Rochester Meeting. This first year, the award
is only being given in the Vision and Color Division. The prize
includes:
*Free Registration for the 1997 meeting in Long Beach
*a $100 gift certificate, redeemable for an OSA publication or
CD-ROM
*a suitable certificate of award
To be eligible, the student or postdoc must be the first (presenting)
author; the topic of the presentation must be appropriate for the Vision
and Color Division; papers and posters will be considered equally.
Please note: this first year, the candidate must submit a request to be
considered for the award in writing (email is acceptable) to the Chair
of the Color & Vision Division NO LATER THAN MAY 10 1996 (my address and
email are given below).
Please help us encourage young vision scientists to apply for this
award.
2. ***** CVS Tour *****
On the Monday night of the meeting (October 21), the Center for
Visual Science at the University of Rochester will have an open house
from 7PM on.
3. ***** Robson Wins Tillyer *****
As announced in the January issue of Optics and Photonics
News, John Robson has won the Society's Tillyer Award, given
for distinguished work in the field of Vision. The award
consists of a silver medal, a certificate, and $1000.
Please come to Rochester to help us celebrate!
4. ***** Proceedings Publication *****
A number of Symposia sponsored by our Division are also
being cross-listed in the co-located "Optics and Imaging in
the Information Age" meeting. Contributors to these symposia
will be offered the opportunity to submit a written version
of their presentations to be published in a separate proceedings
collection.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The Image Segmentation Symposium (organized
by Lynn Olzak) IS a part of the Imaging meeting, despite
not being listed as such in the Call for Papers. Presenters
