LECTURER (FIXED TERM), DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY
POSITION NO: A86/96
The Department has recognized expertise in most areas of Psychology. The
Biological/Experimental area includes laboratories for Brain Research,
Comparative Vision, Psychoneuroimmunology and Cognitive Science, and there
is collaboration with the Neuroscience group in the Faculty of Medicine.
Research support facilities include a biochemistry lab and animal
holding areas. The teaching area is well supported with networked
computer systems.
We seek to appoint an enthusiastic contributor to our research and
teaching program in the area of biological psychology and/or
neuroscience. The appointee would be expected to have
a PhD within Psychology or a closely related discipline and have
a demonstrated research record that complements and allows
collaboration with our research interests. Adequate laboratory
space and new staff funding is available and the successful appointee
would be expected to attract outside research grants.
The appointee would also be expected to teach undergraduate courses
in the area of biological psychology and/or neuroscience. Preference
would be given to applicants who would be interested in the
professional development and implementation of laboratory
practicals and multimedia/simulations in these areas.
In addition, it is desirable that the appointee be literate in research
methods and statistics, and be able to help with undergraduate teaching
in this area from time-to-time. The appointee should have
effective communication skills and an ability to relate to students and staff.
General: The position is available in the first instance on a fixed term
basis for five years commencing in July, 1996 with the precise starting date
subject to negotiation. The salary is within the range of
$AUS 42,198 - $AUS 50,111. Applications Close: 15 May, 1996
