The University of York
Department of Computer Science
Applications are invited for a 3 year PhD research studentship
beginning October 96 in the area of colour constancy.
--------
The stability of our perception of colour despite changes in illumination
is called colour constancy. While there are reasonable computational
theories of colour constancy for computer vision (e.g. for colour
cameras) there does not yet exist good explanations for colour constancy in
humans. However, it is possible that a theory which is appropriate for computer
vision might serve as an adequate explanation for human vision. The successful
candidate will conduct research which tests this hypothesis.
The research student will be supervised by Dr. Graham Finlayson (primary
supervisor) in Computer Science and Dr. Peter Thompson in Psychology.
