The Annual Meeting of the Optical Society of America occurs Oct. 20 -
25, in Rochester NY.

(1) Several people have asked questions about the Proceedings volume.
Let me try to clarify.

The meeting is co-located with a meeting of the Society for Imaging
Science and Technology (IS&T). If your paper was accepted for certain
sessions at the Annual Meeting, OSA mailed you a set of instructions (in
the packet along with your acceptance notice) that describe how your
paper may be published in the proceedings volume being prepared by IS&T.

Although it is not clear from those instructions, there is no obligation
for you to publish your paper in the proceedings. If you choose to do
so, the deadline is Oc. 1 (for hardcopy) or Oct. 11 (for electronic
submissions). Further questions should be directed to IS&T.

(2) By October 1, please send ideas for symposium topics, tutorials, and
short courses for the 1997 Annual Meeting (to be held in Long Beach, CA)
to the appropriate Technical Group Chair or Vice-Chair:
Vision Lynn Olzak (olzak@psych.ucla.edu)
Beau Watson (beau@vision.arc.nasa.gov)
Color Qasim Zaidi (qz@cns.nyu.edu)
Bill Swanson (Bill_Swanson@acd.org)
Applications of Visual Science
Larry Thibos (thibos@ucs.indiana.edu)
Vengu Lakshminarayanan (vengu@redbird.umsl.edu)

I look forward to seeing you in Rochester. Don't forget the evening
technical group sessions Sunday and Tuesday nights (we hope to have
lively discussions), and the CVS tour on Monday evening.
