Scientist Position in Psychophysics at NECI
-------------------------------------------

Exceptionally qualified applicants are invited to apply for the
position of Scientist in psychophysics at the NEC Research Institute,
Princeton, New Jersey. The position is for a three year term
beginning in September 1997 or before (but applications for a
one--year sabbatical visit are also welcome). The successful candidate
should have an exceptional research record extending some years beyond
the PhD (under normal circumstances), and will be expected to conduct
independent, basic research in psychophysics. Salary will depend on
qualifications and will be in the neighborhood of $60,000. The NEC
Research Institute is dedicated to basic, long term research in
Computer Science and Physics. The vision group currently consists of
Ingemar Cox, David Jacobs, John Oliensis, and Daphna Weinshall
(visiting), 3 postdoctoral researchers in computer vision and
psychophysics (Zili Liu, Michael Langer, Lance Williams), and 1
masters level researcher (Sebastien Roy). Our research interests
include perceptual organization, object recognition, human
psychophysics, image database retrieval, stereo, motion, texture, and
shading. Related research is also being carried out at NECI on vision
and learning (Steve Omohundro and Peter Blicher) and on the biophysics
of fly motion perception (Bill Bialek and Rob de Ruyter). The NECI
vision group sponsors the annual NECI Vision Workshop intended to
bring together psychophysicists, computer vision researchers, and
neuroscientists. More information can be found at:
http://www.neci.nj.nec.com/homepages/vision/index.html.

A postdoctoral research position in psychophysics is also available
(as previously advertised). This position involves the same duties as
the Scientist position but is intended for a more junior researcher.

Please send a resume, papers, and list of references to Irene Loeser,
NEC Research Institute, 4 Independence Way, Princeton, NJ 08540. We
will begin reviewing applications for the Scientist position on
January 1, 1997 and for the postdoctoral position on December 1,
1996.
