===========================================================================
The TWENTY-SECOND ANNUAL INTERDISCIPLINARY CONFERENCE will meet in
Teton Village, Jackson Hole, Wyoming, February 2 - February 7, 1997.
The conference covers a wide range of subjects in what has come to be
called cognitive science, varying somewhat from year-to-year and
ranging from visual and auditory physiology and psychophysics, to
human information processing, cognition, learning and memory, to
computational approaches to these problems including neural networks
and artificial intelligence. Ideally the conference provides talks
that are comprehensible and interesting to a wide scientific audience
--such as one might fantasize would occur at a National or Royal
Academy of Science--in which speakers provide overviews of current
research areas as well as of their own recent progress. Attendance
is limited by the size of the conference facility to about 50 persons.
The Conference begins with a reception on Sunday evening, February 2,
at 6:00p. Regular sessions meet from Monday through Friday at 4:00p
to 8:00p with five or six talks per session; rest of the day is free.
After the last session on Friday, there is a banquet for participants.
AIC-22 in 1997, features special sessions on brain imaging and function
with Roger Tootell, David Heeger, Geoff Boynton, Ted DeYoe, Nancy
Kanwisher, Susan Courtney, Rick Buxton, Steve Petersen, Adina Roskies,
Ken Paap, and Sam Williamson.
In 1997, presentations relating to vision and cognition have a special
reference to physiology and include Randy Blake, Tom Busey, Eric
Fredericksen, Bill Geisler, Stan Klein, Zhong-Lin Lu, and George Sperling.
Revived after a long hiatus: Eye movements (Jeff Mulligan, Eileen
Kowler) and motor control (Tom Fikes, Andy Liu).
Memory/Language: Barbara Dosher, Tim McNamara, Rich Shiffrin,
Ursula Staubli, and Ovid Tzeng.
As of Nov. 18, there is room for one or perhaps two papers in the
1997 schedule. Submit proposed presentations ASAP.
The conference hotel, the Inn at Jackson Hole, is directly at the
base of the ski slopes, a short walk from the tram and other ski lifts.
The Conference has arranged special room rates for registered
participants. To reserve lodging, telephone The Inn 1-800-842-7666 and
inform the desk that you are with the Interdisciplinary Conference (AIC).
Other hotels, restaurants, ski rental facilities, shops, and cross
country ski trails, are all within walking distance. There are flights
directly to Jackson Hole AP (taxi or bus to the hotel). Alternatively,
Jackson is approximately a five-hour drive from Salt Lake City.
For more information, electronic registration forms, and programs of recent
AICs, see the www pages at http://www.socsci.uci.edu/HIPLab/AIC
To attend the conference, register electronically at the conference web
site. To volunteer a presentation, please submit a title and a very brief
abstract with your registration or confer directly with the organizer.
Registration includes daily snacks and refreshments, and the closing
