VISION RESEARCH - A NATIONAL PLAN: 1999-2003
For more than 20 years, the NEI has worked in conjunction with the research
community and the National Advisory Eye Council (NAEC) to assess the
progress that has been made in vision research, set realistic goals and
objectives, determine research needs and opportunities, and finally, to
develop research strategies for achieving those goals and objectives. As a
result of this process, the NAEC has published a series of long range plans
with its recommendations for federally-supported research to meet the
visual needs of our Nation. The latest in this series was "Vision
Research--A National Plan: 1994-1998".
We are in the early stages of developing the next long range plan and are
once again turning to the research community to assist in this process. We
ask that you take a few minutes and respond briefly to the two questions
below for your specific area of research activity or interest. This
request is also posted with more detail on an internet site at the
following address (URL):
http://www.nei.nih.gov/neiplan/neiplan.htm
You can also find this site by visiting the NEI home page:

The easiest way to respond is by email links provided at this internet
site. If you prefer, you may fax a response to 301-402-0528. The NEI
extramural program staff will be pleased to answer any questions you may
have about this request. The information you provide will be considered by
expert panels that will prepare specific reports for the final plan. Some
of you may have already tried to send a message through this web site and
experienced difficulties. These technical problems have been largely
resolved and we ask you to try again. Thank you in advance for your
input.
