A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the area of human
visual perception at the Communications Research Center, Ottawa,
Canada. The appointee will be involved in projects exploring
fundamental and applied aspects of binocular and stereoscopic vision.
General goals are (1) to understand the visual processes underlying
stereoscopic depth perception, (2) to understand the factors which
produce high quality stereoscopic images and permit comfortable
viewing of stereoscopic images, and (3) to apply this knowledge to the
digital coding of stereoscopic images. Facilities are also available
for pursuing projects of the applicant's choice. The candidate must
have a background in human visual perception and visual psychophysics.
Ideally, the candidate will (1) have knowledge of binocular vision and
stereo depth perception, (2) be able to program in C/C++, (3) be
familiar with video display technology. The candidate will
collaborate on an ongoing basis with Dr. Lew Stelmach and Dr. James
Tam, and will be part of a broader research team drawing members from
IMAX corporation and Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique.
The Communications Research Center is a laboratory of the Gov't of
Canada, specializing in advanced digital communications research and
technology. World-class facilities are available to conduct research
on a broad range of topics in human perception, and advanced digital
video technologies.
Starting date: as soon as possible
Salary: around $30,000 CDN
Requirements: PhD, training in vision research
