Project Scientist
The Human Performance Laboratory (HPL) of ISTS is engaged in the study of
human spatial orientation as it applies to virtual reality equipment,
including flight simulators and Fibre Optic Head Mounted Displays (FOHMDs).
Key Responsibilities: Work on research regarding the mechanisms of human
spatial orientation with applications to flight simulators and experiments on
the space shuttle; conduct experiments on human subjects using psychophysical
procedures and objective measurement of the movements of eyes and limbs;
gather and analyze experimental data and prepare reports and papers for
publication and presentation at conferences.
Qualifications: A graduate degree in experimental psychology, human
engineering, neuroscience or its equivalent; experience in the design of
visual psychophysical experiments, preferably with human visual orientation;
some knowledge of visual science, the vestibular system, experimental design,
statistics, control theory, multi-media software and psychophysics procedures
for recording movements of the human body.
This is a part-time position of approximately 28 hours per week. The
position
is for one year with the possibility of renewal for a second year.
