Graduate Program in Neurosciences

Ph.D. Studentship in Anatomical and Functional Organization of Visual Cortex
****************************************************************************

A PhD studentship, funded by the MRC (Canada), is available to study the
anatomical bases of parallel pathways in the visual cortex with Dr. Joanne
Matsubara in the Ophthalmology Department at the University of British
Columbia, Vancouver, B.C. Canada.

The research is conducted on animal models using state-of-the-art
neuroanatomical techniques and imaging methods. We are currently
conducting experiments on the relationship of cytochrome oxidase blobs and
x, y and w cell pathways into striate and extrastriate areas.

Our laboratory is situated in the Basic Science Labs of the Department of
Ophthalmology, in the Eye Care Centre, 2550 Willow Street, Vancouver BC.
The candidate will have an opportunity to interact with 8 other faculty
members, and their associated staff and students. The expertise of our
vision group is highly diverse, spanning a broad range of techniques
including molecular biology, viral therapeutics, tissue culture,
neuroanatomy, electrophysiology and visual psychophysics.

Previous lab experience in the visual sciences and/or neurosciences is
required. Graduate study leading to a Ph.D. will be administerd by the
Graduate Program of Neuroscience at the University of British Columbia. The
applicant must meet and exceed entry requirements for the program.
Information about the Graduate Program of Neurosciences entry requirements
