Greetings!

I have a quick query for members of CVNET. Some fellow called me who is
doing some investigation in the area of light and color detection.

He is interested in whether there are any problems with LED's as a light
source in a particular vein. Namely, since LED's are relatively
narrow in spectral response, he was wondering if any types of optical
effects or color vision deficiencies might eliminate the ability to
detect the emitted light. He was also interested in what differences
there might be in the ability to perceive color vs. simply detecting the
presence of emitted light.

I thought that CVNet folks might be able to suggest some recent vision
research in this area that I could point him to? I have told him to
talk with some transportation folks since they do a lot with signage
and light detection in robust environments and have told him to check
out a few ASTM standards. I'm not that familiar with what might be
going on in the vision community in this area - thus this note.

Thanks for your assistance. If you are doing work in this area and
want me to pass along contact information for this fellow, I'll be
happy to do so. Many thanks.

Best Regards,

Joann
