Don Kelly passed away May 1st, after developing complications from
heart sugery. He was one of the pioneers of applying linear systems
analysis to human vision. The fruit of his works will always have an
important place in visual science, but those who had the privilege of
knowing him will dearly miss his firm kindness, his warm humanity, and
his great sense of humor.
A few of us who worked with him closely at SRI took a minute to browse
through the abstract of his 1989 OSA speech "40 Years of Image
Technology and Vision Research" published in Optics & Photonics News in
July of 1990, and we thought it would be a good idea to suggest that
experience to his numerous friends and colleagues.
He is survived by his wife Jess, and his son George.
Memorial services are being arranged and details will be posted here as
soon as they are available.
Please address inquiries to George B. Kelly, zentiger@earthlink.net
