PhD Research Position (4 years) on IMAGE FUSION
TOPIC
The combination of images from different sensor modalities and with different resolution
into a single (more informative) image.
The Perception Department of the TNO Human Factors Research Institute develops
and evaluates algorithms to fuse images from different electro- optical sensing modalities.
Applications are target detection and recognition, obstacle avoidance, surveillance
and navigation.
The aim of this project is to develop, implement and evaluate algorithms to fuse
images from multiple sensing modalities in a single display with increased information
content. The appearance of the fused image should be invariant for time of day, and
changes in weather conditions and seasonal changes. The display should result in an
optimal task performance. The operational value of the algorithms that are developed
will be evaluated by measuring the task performance of human obersvers performing
detection, localisation, surveillance and navigation tasks with fused imagery and in
realistic scenario's.
The project is a collaboration between Signaal, TNO-HFRI and University Utrecht.
WORK DESCRIPTION
The development and implementation of image fusion algorithms;
the design and performance of observer experiments to validate the newly
developed algorithms.
A training and educational program can be provided.
The work should result in a PhD thesis.
