The International Research Group on Colour Vision Deficiencies (IRGCVD)
at its most recent meeting (Ghent, July 5-9, 1997) formally changed its name
to the International Colour Vision Society or ICVS. This re-baptism serves
several purposes, one among them being to silence the complaint that the
former name was simply too long and complicated (even as an acronym).
More importantly as we pass our quarter century anniversary, we feel that
the new name more accurately reflects the breadth of subjects of interest to
the members of our society. While we retain a fundamental interest in
unraveling the complexities of color vision deficiency, we note that the
understanding of all forms of color vision, normal and abnormal, human
and non-human, is pertinent to this endeavor. The society publishes a
quarterly newsletter, Daltoniana and holds a biennial meeting. Our next
meeting will take place July, 1997 in Gottingen, Germany. The proceedings
of the most recent meeting are to be published in a special issue of Vision
Research. We welcome new members. A sample newsletter and
further information about our society, membership application
and the next meeting can be found at our web site:
