RESEARCH ASSISTANT
A research assistant position is available in the Department of
Vision Sciences at Glasgow Caledonian University. The candidate will
participate in research on pattern and motion perception which uses a
Macintosh computer to present stimuli. The position will be for six months
in the first instance but may be extendible for a brief period. Salary
will be determined by candidate's qualifications.
The candidate will run experiments (i.e. instruct subjects on what
to do and entering various parameters into the computer). The job will
also involve a limited amount of time participating as a subject in these
experiments (typically three or four 1-hour sessions a week). These
experiments are completely non-invasive and are based on subjects entering
responses into the computer after seeing stimuli on the computer screen.
It will be a real plus if the candidate can assist us in computer
programming. We would like to extend our library of motion programs to
include C or C++ programs which would display a precomputed series of
"stills" as a movie on the Macintosh. We are also interested in
translating our current Macintosh Pascal pattern vision experimental
programs into C programs. Both of these programming projects involve using
the Macintosh Toolbox routines and some familiarity with this will be
necessary to efficiently program within the limited tenure of our position.
