A LECTURESHIP IN OPTOMETRY
Department of Optometry and Vision Science

(Vacancy UAC.909)

The University invites applications for the position of Lecturer in
Optometry. The Department of Optometry and Vision Science is a
department in the Faculty of Science and conducts a four year
undergraduate course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Optometry
and postgraduate studies for the degree of Master of Science
(Optometry) and Doctor of Philosophy.

Conditions of Employment

Qualifications

1. Applicants must have an optometric qualification and a higher
degree in Optometry, Visual Science or a related discipline. It is
expected that the successful applicant will have a strong record of
research and teaching in experimental or clinical optometry. A
background in visual science or optics would be an advantage.

Duties

2. The person appointed will be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor
through the Head of Department of Optometry and Vision Science and
the Dean of the Faculty of Science for such duties including
teaching, examining and research as may be required by the Head of
Department.

Salary

3. Commencing salary will be determined in accordance with
qualifications and experience within the scale for Lecturers. The
present salary scale for a Lecturer is $NZ44,250 per annum rising to
$NZ53,250 per annum by six annual increments. In normal
circumstances a Lecturer whose services have proved satisfactory may
apply for promotion to be given the status of Senior Lecturer,
salary maximum $NZ65,250 per annum, though this may be increased to
$NZ71,250 at the University=92s discretion.

Date of Taking up Duties

4. The date of taking up duties is negotiable. The University=92s
preference is for the successful applicant to take up duties as
early in 1998 as possible.

General Conditions

5. The appointee will also be subject to the provisions of The
University of Auckland Academic Staff Collective Employment Contract
a summary of which is available on application to the department.
