TWO LECTURESHIPS IN OPTOMETRY

The University invites applications for two positions of Lecturer in
Optometry. The Department of Optometry and Vision Science is a
department in the Faculty of Science and conducts a four-year
undergraduate course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Optometry
and postgraduate studies for the degree of Master of Science
(Optometry) and Doctor of Philosophy.
Conditions of Appointment
1. Tenure
Both appointments will lead to the granting of tenure after completion
of an initial term of four years.
2. Qualifications
* You must have an optometric qualification and a higher degree in
Optometry, Visual Science or a related discipline.
* It is expected that you will have a strong record of research and
teaching in experimental or clinical optometry.
* It would be an advantage to have a background in either
- ocular pathology or pharmacology
- visual science or optics.
3. Responsibilities
* You will be responsible to the Vice Chancellor, through the Dean of
the Faculty of Science and the Head of the Department of Optometry and
Vision Science, for such duties including teaching, examining, and
research, as may be required.
* You will be required to develop research programmes and teach at all
levels.
4. Salary
* This will be determined with regard to qualifications and experience
within the scale for Lecturers.
* The Lecturers' scale commences at $NZ45,250 per annum and rises by
six $1,500 annual increments to $NZ54,250 per annum.
* Lecturers may apply for the status of Senior Lecturer, salary range
$NZ57,700 per annum - $NZ72,450 per annum.
5. Commencing Date
* To be arranged as early as possible in 1998.

* As specified in The University of Auckland Academic Staff Collective
Employment Contract.
