Dear Dr. Chan,
Would you be so kind as to post this information on cvnet. It should be of
general interest, as well as specific interest to those in the United
Kingdom who study illusions, perception, and cognitive science:
EVENT: ILLUSION EXHIBITION/LECTURE

LECTURE:
The University of Cambridge will be sponsoring a free public lecture on
illusions Your Minds Eye: An Interactive Journey through the Paradoxes of
the Visual System by Al Seckel.
Abstract: Illusions have always been a source of wonder and delight, but
they can also be a wonderful window into discovering how your brain
perceives. They can reveal the constraints of ones visual system in a way
that normal vision fails to do so. This lecture will take you through an
interactive journey through a world of the most amazingly powerful and
paradoxical illusions, revealing insights about those issues which are
most central to us -- how we think and perceive.
Al Seckel, in the Division of Cognitive and Neuronal Systems at the
California Institute of Technology, is an internationally respected
authority on illusions, perception, and cognitive science. He has
lectured on this topic at many of the leading universities of the world,
including Harvard, MIT, Caltech, Berkeley, UCLA, Oxford, Cambridge, Lund,
Utrecht, London, etc.
He is also involved in designing interactive exhibits and displays on
illusions and perception for some of the leading science and technology
centers, and has created the award-winning and famous web site on
illusions (www.illusionworks.com).
Seckel, together with Shin Shimojo, is currently working on a
comprehensive academic treatise on illusions, perception, and cognitive
science for the Brain and Cognitive Division of the MIT Press.
