Dear Colleagues,

I know it is a bit late, but I just agreed to chair a symposium on visual
memory at the fall meeting of the Optical Society of America, October 4-9,
1998, in Baltimore, Maryland. Beau Watson had started to organize the
symposium and has invited Ronald Rensink to give an invited lecture.

I urge each of you to consider submitting a paper for this symposium, which
has the potential to synthesize a wide variety of experimental results. The
deadline for abstracts officially is 10 April. If you are interested in
participating, please email me asap expressing your interest, a title and
an abstract.

Lew Harvey

Symposium
8. Visual memory for patterns, objects, and scenes
Symposium
Description
Recent research on visual memory for objects and scenes has
led to striking claims about the nature of the information that is and is
not preserved from one instant to the next. For example, recent work on
change blindess suggests that relatively little visual information is
stored across views. A better understanding of the nature of our visual
representations and memory is needed to understand our experience of a
continuous, stable visual world. Contributions are invited on topics
related to visual memory and visual representations, including (but not
limited to) saccadic integration, visual masking, change detection, scene
recognition, memory distortions, and contextual influences.

Invited Lecture
