I would be grateful if the following notice could be posted
to cvnet:
I am very sorry to announce to the vision community
that my friend and mentor, Dorothea Jameson, died
unexpectedly on Easter Sunday, April 12, 1998, at the
age of 77. (She had an undiagnosed lung cancer.)
Among my fondest memories are the informal quiz she gave me,
on the first day we talked seriously about color, to make sure
that I knew what was meant by "saturation", and later, her way
of dealing with my problem of moving one of those old Bausch
and Lomb 500 mm monster-monochromators: she just picked it up
and put it down where it belonged.
Along with many other students, colleagues and friends, I will
miss her gentle manner, her luminous, probing intelligence,
her scientific wisdom and her love for truth.
