Dottie Jameson was an inspiration to us all.

Perhaps most important, she documented for us a new way of looking at color
vision (which, as she pointed out, was in fact old). But she also inspired
a generation of vison scientists (myself included), and especially females.

Dottie was absolutely rigorous to the end. She loved this business of vision
and she communicated her love to us. The last letter I got from her was
an inspired criticism (with notable impatience) of a paper my lab had
submitted to PNAS.

Dottie will forever be with me and my lab. Thanks, Dave, for letting us know
of the unfortunate event. We, as a community, need to acknowledge this
extremely important person's life in an effective way.

To Leo: I know your pain is intractable and in every way inconsolable. But
please rest with the assurance that we loved her too. I know that you both
have had a longstanding interest in nonhuman models of visual function, and
that has been extremely important in the progression of our science.

I wish you well, even knowing how difficult this time must be for you.
