Hello,

I am the online services manager at the Lighthouse, an organization
heavily involved in vision research.

We are currently soliciting nomintions for the 1998 Pisart Award and I
was hoping to post something to your membership. If this is appropriate
and you'd like to post it for me, I would like to use the copy below. If you
would like me to post to the list myself, please just let me know how to do
so.

If you have any further questions, comments or information, please
contact me at smargolin@lighthouse.org. Please direct anyone
interested in the nominations process to awards@lighthouse.org.

Thanks,
Stephanie Margolin

The Lighthouse Inc. has extended the deadline for nominations for the
1998 Pisart Vision Award to May 15, 1998. The Pisart Vision Award is a
major prize given to people who have made a noteworthy contribution to
the prevention, cure, or treatment of severe vision impairment or
blindness. Open to citizens of any country, the award will be presented
in New York City on September 24, 1998.

A candidate may represent any discipline that seeks to prevent or
ameliorate vision impairment including, but not limited to, basic scientific
research, engineering, medicine, optometry, rehabilitation, or scientific
delivery. The contribution may be a new investigation, invention or
noteworthy finding, or it may represent accomplishments of
contemporary relevance that have been made over time.

The $15,000 award and accompanying sculpture are provided through
the will of Mme. Georgette Pisart, who was a longtime Lighthouse
volunteer and the widow of Fernand Pisart, a Belgian diplomat and
businessman. The winner is selected by an independent panel of judges
who are leaders in various disciplines concerned with vision.
