Studentship In Visual Cognition

</bold>Applicants are invited for a three year postgraduate studentship
position leading to a Ph.D. (Psychology) on a project on the visual
cognition of natural scenes. The project will investigate how goal
directed attention to complex natural scenes influences perception of
target and distracting objects. The project is funded jointly by the
ESRC (UK) and by Unilever Research, plc. The student will work
primarily in the School of Psychology (rated 5A in the last Research
Assessment Exercise) but will also spend time in the Behavioural
Science Laboratories at Unilever's Port Sunlight Research facility. As
part of the Experimental Consumer Psychology Centre's work, the project
will explore questions in visual cognition that are relevant to
consumer goods industries.

The student will be affiliated with the Cognitive Group of the School
of Psychology (Bangor) and the work will be conducted in our
well-equipped Visual Cognition Laboratory.

=46unding is for 3 years (to begin October 98) and is available to UK
residents only. Qualifications include a first or upper second class
BA or B.Sc. in Psychology (or expected by July 98). Applicants with an
M.Sc. in Research Methods are especially encouraged to apply.
