Hi-
Please post this message on CVNet. Thanks!

Research Assistant Position in fMRI and Visual Cognition

Position available soon for a full-time research assistant to work
in Nancy Kanwisher's lab at MIT. Our lab carries out research on visual
attention and the recognition of faces, objects, and scenes using both
behavioral measures (RT and accuracy) and functional brain imaging. This
job involves assisting with functional MRI experiments, including all
phases of the research from the design of experiments to the preparation
of stimulus materials, the running of subjects in an MRI scanner, the
analysis of MRI data, and the preparation of this data in figures for
talks and papers. This position requires extensive experience with Macs,
one or more semesters of programming experience, comfort with unix
environments and the ability to figure out unfamiliar software packages on
your own. You should also be able to trouble-shoot various problems (e.g.
printers, extension conflicts, network connections, etc). The job also
involves some organizational/managerial tasks such as purchasing and
maintaining equipment and supplies, overseeing undergraduates involved in
research, making figures and slides, plus occasional secretarial tasks
such as xeroxing and library work. Enthusiasm for cognitive neuroscience,
willingness to work occasional very late nights, and some programming
experience is essential; any knowledge of visual cognition, neuroanatomy,
or statistics, or extensive experience with unix would be a plus. This job
is ideal for anyone interested in research in cognitive science; research
assistants in this lab are treated as junior graduate students and it is
an ideal stepping stone to graduate school. (All past six people who have
held this position are now accepted to or enrolled in top graduate
programs.). The position will begin approximately July 30th. Salary will
be in the mid- 20s and includes fringe benefits and free coverage of
tuition for one course per semester at MIT or elsewhere. Commitment of at
least one year is required, two years preferred.
The person currently holding this position will be deciding in the
next 1-2 weeks whether he will stay on in the position for another year
(in which case the position will not be available); I am advertising this
position now to solicit applications in the event the position will be
available. If you are interested please snail-mail a CV ASAP to Nancy
Kanwisher, E10-243 MIT, 79 Amherst St., Cambridge, Ma 02139.
