CLINICIAN-SCIENTIST PROGRAM FOR OPTOMETRISTS

The Research Foundation of the State University of New York, located at
the College of Optometry in New York City, invites applications for the
position of Clinical Investigator. The primary purpose of the
Clinician-Scientist Program is to provide up to two years of intense
research training in vision science, supervised by a senior faculty
mentor, leading towards a career as an independent clinical researcher.
Eighty percent of this appointment will be devoted to the program and 20%
to clinical patient care activities (pending appropriate credentialing by
the University Optometric Center). During the course of the program, the
Clinical Investigator would be required to submit an NIH
clinician-scientist training grant application (KO8 or equivalent). The
Clinical Investigator would also have the opportunity of working towards a
Ph.D. in Vision Science at the College of Optometry. At the completion of
the initial appointment, there would be an opportunity to extend the
appointment dependent upon receipt of a KO8 or equivalent NIH grant. This
program could commence as early as September 1, 1998 or as soon thereafter
as possible.

The selected applicant will work in one or more of the following research
areas: accommodation, myopia, eye movements, cornea wound healing and
corneal physiology, low vision and reading, clinical psychophysics (color,
space and motion). The research mentors to be considered are Kenneth J.
Ciuffreda, Philip Kruger, Mark Rosenfield, Peter Reinach, Dean Yager, or
Qasim Zaidi.

Salary and Rank: Salary will be competitive. Applicants should send a
current resume, three letters of recommendation, representative reprints
or preprints, and a letter of interest (clearly indicate a preference for
one of the above faculty mentors) to:

Ms. Zenia Tarkiewicz, Assistant to Associate Dean
SUNY, State College of Optometry
100 East 24th Street
New York, NY 10010

Mentors will contact individual applicants. A research and plan will be
required from the applicant and mentor. The review of applications will
begin July15, 1998 and will continue until the appointment is made.
