Australasian Ophthalmic and Visual Science Meeting
Friday 27th November - Sunday 29th November 1998
http://www.raco.org.au/open/aovsm_main.htm
The AOVS meeting is open to all interested in the visual sciences,
both at a clinical or laboratory level. Papers of a basic science
nature, and those on clinical research, are both welcome. This is the
only meeting in Australia where those participating in clinical work
and scientific endeavour in the visual sciences, can get together to
discuss each other's work. Clinical Trainees and Graduate Students are
especially encouraged to participate.
Mark Gillies and Paul Mitchell chair the 1998 meeting, with Ian Morgan
and his colleagues hosting the meeting at the Research School of
Biological Science at the Australian National University in Canberra,
from Friday 27th November to Sunday 29th November.
The meeting is substantially subsidised by the Ophthalmic Research
Institute of Australia, which will enable a significant reduction in
the cost of fares and registration for eligible students and
laboratory scientists who have an abstract and poster accepted.
The meeting format has been most successful, with each presentation
being by poster display, together with a short oral presentation which
acted as an introduction to the poster, with plenty of time for
discussion.
There will be four sessions. Each session will be devoted to one of
the sections: Clinical and Epidemiology, Ocular Cell Biology,
Electrophysiology and Psychophysics and, Cornea and Lens. Talks will
be for 3 minutes with only 4 slides. As well as the talks there will be
a one and a half poster session. Last year's programme will remain on
the web site until the provisional programme for 1998 is available.
Two mini symposia are planned with 3 fifteen-minute presentations. On
Saturday afternoon the Fred Hollows and the Peter Bishop lectures will
be presented.
The Australian and New Zealand Journal of Ophthalmology will again
publish a special edition of the journal early in 1999, featuring all
abstracts and selected papers presented this year.
