Post-doctoral positions in neurophysiology, psychophysics and natural and
synthetic image processing
Applications are invited for two post-doctoral scientists (up to Wellcome
Trust Senior Research Associate Level 3 (<GBP30,626), depending on
experience) to join a 5-year programme using concurrent psychophysics and
neurophysiology to investigate the mechanisms of segmentation, integration
and lability in the primate visual system. Applicants should possess
experience and skills either in micro-electrode recording in
task-performing primates, visual psychophysics, or computer
image-processing, or analysis of natural images.
Please contact Malcolm Young, Anya Hurlbert, Jack Scannell or Martin Tovee
for further details, at the Neural Systems Group, Department of Psychology,
Ridley Building, Claremont Place, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 7RU. Tel:

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral scientist (up to Wellcome
Trust Research Associate Level 2 (<GBP29,446), depending on experience) to
join a 3-year project using neurophysiological methods to investigate the
mechanisms of colour processing in the primate visual system. Applicants
should possess experience and skills in micro-electrode recording.

PhD opportunites in visual and computational neuroscience
Applications are invited for up to three PhD students in visual
neuroscience. One studentship may be a Wellcome Prize Studentship.
Successful applicants will join one of the Wellcome Trust studies being
prosecuted in the Neural Systems Group. Topics include, mechanisms of
segmentation, integration, lability, and colour processing; computational
studies of information representation in the brain; mathematical models of
the behavioural effects of brain lesions; and analysis of neuroanatomical
connectivity. Some experience in computer programming will be an advantage
in all the doctoral projects likely to be offered.
Please contact Malcolm Young for further details, at the Neural Systems
Group, Department of Psychology, Ridley Building, Claremont Place,
Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 7RU. Tel: +44-191-222-7525, Fax: +44-191-222-5622,

Departmental computing officer
Applications are invited for a further postgraduate or postdoctoral
computing officer to support research. The Department is particularly
active in behavioural ecology; computational evolutionary biology; in
visual, systems and computational neuroscience; and in the conjuction of
these areas in neuroecology. Interest in these subjects would be an
advantage, as would experience of image processing, graphics programming,
numerical simulation, and systems management of Macintosh, PC and Unix
platforms. Salary level will be according to experience.
Please contact Malcolm Young for further details, at the Department of
Psychology, Ridley Building, Claremont Place, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 7RU.
