Opportunities for Work in Vision Research
Masters and Ph.D. positions available in vision research. General
interests include: embryology, comparative physiology and anatomy of the
eye, optics and biochemistry of the lens. Students with an interest and
strong background in biochemistry or molecular biology are encouraged to
apply.
Current projects include but are not limited to:
1. The effect of cataractogenic agents on the optics of the lens. An
organ culture system is currently in place to allow analysis of long term
effects.
2. Study of normal and abnormal refractive development of the eye using
an animal model.
Students would be enrolled in a graduate program in vision science at the
School of Optometry, University of Waterloo, with the possibility of a
joint degree in biology. This work involves the use of a variety of
biochemical and histological approaches, including gel electrophoresis,
scanning and transmission electron microscopy. Graduate stipends are
available to qualified candidates.
