Faculty Position in Medical Optics
The Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester invites applications
for a tenure-track faculty position in medical optics. This new position,
available at the assistant or perhaps the associate professor level, is
intended to complement the
recent appointment of Prof. David R. Williams to the William G. Allyn
Professorship in Medical Optics. The Institute of Optics
(www.optics.rochester.edu) is a major center for teaching and research,
offering programs leading to the B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Optics. A
recent description of the educational programs can be found in the
September 1998 issue (pages 18-22) of the Optical Society of
America's membership magazine Optics & Photonics News. The successful
candidate will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate
levels and to develop a vigorous, productive program of research in an area
of optics that will contribute to the advancement of medical science or
practice. There are many opportunities for on-campus collaboration with
faculty and staff in the university's science and engineering departments
and research centers. Programs in the
university's Center for Visual Science (www.cvs.rochester.edu) and School
of Medicine and Dentistry (www.urmc.rochester.edu) will likely be of
special interest. Applications should include a complete curriculum vitae,
including list of publications, a description of teaching and research
interests, and the names, mailing and e-mail addresses and telephone
numbers of at least three references.
Nominations and applications should be sent by mail to Professor Dennis G.
Hall, The Institute of Optics, University of Rochester, Rochester, NY
14627. (Electronic applications will not be accepted.) Review of
applications will begin on January 1, 1999. The University of Rochester is
an equal opportunity employer.
