Faculty Positions
The Indiana University School of Optometry invites applications for three
tenure/tenure-track faculty positions in the basic and/or clinical sciences
commencing in the Fall of 1999. Candidates with extraordinary promise in
any area of visual science will be considered, especially those relating to
pharmacology, physiology, cornea and contact lenses, geriatrics, infant
vision, low vision, ocular disease, anatomy, cell biology, neuroscience,
and visual optics.
Successful applicants will be expected to develop an independent research
program, attract extramural funding, contribute to our interdisciplinary
graduate program in visual science (with faculty from the departments of
psychology, medical sciences, neurosciences, ophthalmology, speech and
hearing, computer science), and teach professional-level courses in the
School of Optometry. Special opportunities to collaborate on clinical
research are available under the auspices of the Borish Center for
Ophthalmic Research.
Indiana University was founded in 1820 and is one of the oldest state
universities west of the Alleghenies. It currently enrolls about 24,000
undergraduates and 7,000 graduate and professional students on the
Bloomington campus. Many of our graduate programs rank among the best in
the country. The library's collection, including the optometry/vision
science collection held in the Optometry branch library, is outstanding,
and the School of Music is ranked first in the country. Bloomington is a
relaxed community located in a beautifully wooded and hilly area of the
