Subject: Job opportunity

Job description: A lot like a post-doc, except you'll get paid better.
You'll work as an in-house contractor in the Color Display Laboratory
(CDL), located in the Visual Displays Systems branch of the Air Force
Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton OH.
You'll be responsible for conceiving, executing, and publishing
applied research on color vision and color displays on problems of
relevance to USAF, in collaboration with the CDL's director.
Programming, stat, and hardware maintenance support is available,
although the more of this you can do yourself the better. Travel
support for conference presentations also available. You must be able
to obtain a Secret clearance, although we do not do classified
research.

Recent/ongoing projects: (1) Development and evaluation of models for
predicting display colorimetry; (2) Development of a model to predict
field-rate requirements for field-sequential color displays; (3)
Development and evaluation of optimal color-coding schemes for
head-mounted display (HMD) symbology (using nearby dome flight
simulator); (4) Evaluation of effects of +Gz on color vision (using
nearby centrifuge); (5) Development of a color airborne HMD; (6)
Development of a variable-transmittance helmet visor.

Education and experience: New M.A. or M.S. minimum; Ph.D. preferred.

Skills/knowledge desired: Human factors engineering and visual
psychophysics w/emphasis on color vision and color displays;
experimental design and statistics (mainly ANOVA and regression);
familiarity with photometric and colorimetric instrumentation and
calibration; MS Windows, MS Office, C++, and Fortran programming;
experience with simple optical systems.

CDL toys: Win95/Pentium system w/Cambridge Research VSG2/3 video card;
Win3.1/486 system w/custom Univision 3 x 10-bit DAC video card; MS
Visual C++ 5.0; DEC Visual Fortran 5.1; SigmaPlot 4.0; SAS 6.09;
