research groups: Ophthalmic & Physiological Optics and Visual Psychophysics

programme in Optometry which is currently the largest in the UK. There is

PROFESSOR (Ref: A99/25)
Proven academic excellence and an ability to take a leadership role in
research initiatives and the acquisition of research funding are of
paramount importance. Candidates with an international standing in any area
of optometry, vision sciences or related areas will be welcomed. Professors
participate vigorously in determining research policy within the School and
across the University. Interest in developing links with outside
organisations will be encouraged and may include, for example, collaboration
with the Regional Health Service and Aston Science Park. Consideration will
be given to a continuing appointment, secondment or fixed-term contract,
with appropriate remuneration. The School would be prepared to consider a
senior person who wished to be accompanied by junior co-workers.
LECTURERS (3 positions) (Ref: A99/26)
Appointees will be required to participate in teaching, research and
administration in Optometry and Vision Sciences. Consideration will be
given to any aspect of activity in optometry and vision sciences, but of
special interest are the areas of ocular disease, ocular biometry and
contact lenses. Applicants should be registered with the General Optical
Council.
Terms of appointment will depend on the background and experience of
particular candidates. The minimum period for which lecturers are normally
appointed is five years, with the possibility of subsequent transfer to a
continuing appointment. One position may be appointed at Reader/Senior
Lecturer level, for which clear evidence of international standing in
research will be required.
