PhD Research Project in Visual Science at City University
£ 14000 - £15500 per annum

The successful applicant will be joining a team of researchers in an
active laboratory with multiple ongoing projects. The work will focus
primarily on blindsight and other functions associated with
subcortical pathways. Psychophysical techniques and other tests based
on involuntary visually evoked responses, eye-movements, pupillometry
and fMRI have already been developed for this project and the
successful applicant will be expected to start the research work as
soon as possible. A number of subjects with both unilateral and
bilateral cortical damage will be investigated.

The aim is to reveal some of the potential capacities of the nine or
more extra-striate pathways originating in the retina that remain
intact after damage to the primary visual cortex. Emphasis will be
placed on the kind of performance that can be achieved when the
subject is not consciously aware of the visual input. Changes in
performance with practice will also be investigated.

A good science degree is required and technical skills in
psychophysics, photometry, data analysis, computing and modelling work
would be an advantage.
