Contribute to the Departments programmes of research in Vision Sciences
Current areas of research activity include Anterior Eye Physiology, =

DEPARTMENT OF VISION SCIENCES
Glasgow Caledonian University has the only Department of Vision Sciences =
within Scotland. It is also unique in offering undergraduate degrees =
in optometry and orthoptics and a diploma in dispensing optics. As a =
centre of excellence for Optometry and Orthoptics, the Department has =
developed close links with both health professions and is active in the =
promotion of post-graduate education and pre-registration training. The =
Department operates a state of the art Eye Clinic on the City Campus =
which is a teaching clinic in which students examine patients. The =
clinic is sub-divided into the specialist areas of:-
Refractive Abnormalities
Contact Lenses
Sub-Normal Vision
Children's Vision
Anomalies of Binocular Vision
Clinical Electrophysiology
Orthoptics.
The Department has an active research programme with 15 full-time post =
graduate students currently registered for PhD degrees. It has been =
designated as a Centre of Excellence by the University and has received =
an award of =A3330,000 for the development of its research in vision =
science. Current areas of research include:-
Corneal and Tear Physiology
Visual Psychophysics
Clinical Electrophysiology
Accommodation
Binocular Vision
Visual Development
In addition to the research staff to be appointed with funding from the =
Centre of Excellence Award the current staff establishment is 24 =
academic staff, 6 technicians, 3 administrative assistants, 1 secretary =
and 2 clinic receptionists. The academic staff comprise 1 Professor =
(Head of Department), 1 Research Professor, 1 Assistant Head of =
Department (Senior Lecturer), 4 Senior Lecturers, 12 Lecturers and 5 =
Research Fellows.
