POSTDOCTORAL POSITION AT UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH
MECHANISMS OF DIRECTION SELECTIVITY IN PRIMATE V1
A postdoctoral position funded by an NEI research grant is available in the
Department of Neurobiology, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine,
beginning June 1, 1999. The applicant will be engaged in electrophysiological
and modeling studies of neuronal response timing and spatiotemporal
receptive-field structure as they relate to direction selectivity in V1 of
the macaque monkey. Desirable qualifications are: (1) doctoral thesis work
in systems neuroscience; (2) programming skills; and (3)a solid mathematics
background.
Pittsburgh has a large and vibrant neuroscience community (see Center for
Neuroscience, U. Pitt directory --> http://www.pitt.edu/~cnup/). Six
laboratories are specifically engaged in physiological and modeling studies
of information processing in visual and somatosensory cortex. The Center
for the Neural Basis of Cognition, a joint Pitt-Carnegie Mellon University
neuroscience center (http://www.cnbc.cmu.edu/), actively fosters seminars,
courses and interactions among researchers in systems neurobiology,
computer science, psychology and robotics.
