Grawemeyer Award in Psychology

Purpose

The University of Louisville is pleased to announce an award to recognize
outstanding ideas in Psychology. The University is able to provide the
award as a result of the creative generosity of the late H. Charles
Grawemeyer. The purpose of the award is to acknowledge and
disseminate outstanding ideas in the science of Psychology. Submissions
may address a wide range of topics in psychology and should be reflective
of those areas considered part of the discipline. The award is designed to
recognize a specific achievement. This idea may have been developed by
one individual or several individuals and may be submitted from anywhere
in the world.

The Prize

The Grawemeyer Award in Psychology is accompanied by a cash prize of
$200,000 paid in five annual installments of $40,000.

Eligibility and Criteria for Judging Nominations

The idea(s) eligible for nomination may have an individual author or
authors. The competition does not limit the format in which the idea or
achievement appears. Consideration will be given to printed books, articles
appearing in scholarly journals, technological advances, software, research
reports, conference presentations, or other widely and publicly
disseminated forms. Nominations will be judged on the basis of originality,
creativity, scientific merit, and scope of potential applicability on the
field of psychology.

The Nomination Process

The University invites nominations from throughout the world by
individuals, by professional associations, by university presidents and
administrators, or by publishers and editors of journals and books in
psychology. To nominate a work, the nominator must submit the
following:

A 1-2 page letter of nomination in English identifying the specific
idea or achievement being nominated and delineating the reasons
why the entry merits the award. Please provide complete
bibliographic references if possible.

A current mailing address, telephone number, fax number and e-
mail address for the nominee(s).

Upon receipt of a letter of nomination, the nominee(s) will be notified of
their nomination and sent a Nominee Form which explains the award
conditions. Each nominee must then submit supporting materials including:
a signed copy of the Nominee Form, 6 copies of the relevant publications,
presentations, or other documents (all in English) of the idea or
achievement, and 6 copies of the nominee's curriculum vita or resume (also
in English).

Deadline

To be considered, the nomination letter must be received by November 1,
1999 and all supporting materials from the nomination must reach the
University of Louisville by December 1, 1999.
