Part-time Research Assistant in Clinical Vision Research
Position available for a part-time research assistant to work on studies of
visual function in patients with glaucoma, in Bill Swanson's laboratory at
the Department of Clinical Sciences, The Research Foundation of SUNY at The
College of Optometry, New York City. Duties include: schedule patients and
recruit normal volunteers, obtain informed consent, administer clinical
tests, maintain databases, perform initial data analysis, perform routine
calibrations. Minimum requirements: bachelor's degree or higher, computer
experience. This NEI-funded research project investigates the linkage
between functional defects and biological damage through use of
quantitative models, rigorous psychophysical methods and carefully selected
patient populations. The current project involves development of a
clinically useful system for evaluating visual improvement during
treatment. The first phase will move from a xenon-arc-based system to an
10-bit/DAC computer system, and the second phase will move from 10-bit/DAC
system to an 8-bit/DAC system. A cone-excitation-based color vision model
is used to analyze data, which are compared to three-dimensional images of
the optic nerve.
