Subject: Visual Neuroscience Postdoc at Wilmer: new application deadline

Under the NIH-sponsored Visual Neuroscience Training Program,
candidates are sought for a one-year postdoctoral fellowship, with a
possibility of extension, at the Lions Vision Research and Rehabilitation
Center, a division of the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins.

This fellowship is related to the development of intraocular visual
prosthetics and retinal cell transplantation techniques. Part of the work
will concentrate on validation of newly designed vision tests in
individuals with severely reduced sight, but training will involve extensive
participation in intraocular prosthesis development and simulation of
prosthetic vision in normally-sighted individuals; involvement in retinal
cell transplantation research is possible.

A background in biomedical engineering and/or vision psychophysics or
electrophysiology, and an interest in work with visually impaired
individuals are required.

Due to NIH regulations, only US citizens and permanent residents can
be accepted for this position.

The fellowship is for one year, starting before the end of 1999. Extension
to a second year of funding is possible.

The application period has been extended, and applications are now
welcome until October 25, 1999. For further information please contact:
