POSTDOCTORAL POSITION AVAILABLE

IN COGNITIVE (NEURO) PSYCHOLOGY=20

COGNITIVE PSYCHOLOGY, VRIJE UNIVERSITEIT
AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS
=20
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the area =
of cognitive neuroscience of visual attention. The successful candidate =
will have a strong background and demonstrated research program in human =
cognition with an emphasis on brain-behavior relationships. The goal of =
this project is to identify the neural circuits and systems that mediate =
selective attention. We are particularly interested in understanding how =
top-down and bottom-up (voluntary and automatic) attentional processes =
influence visual information processing, and to identify the executive =
brain systems that mediate these processes. A current topic of interest =
is the neural circuits underlying the deployment of covert and overt =
shifts of attention, and the relationship between attention and eye =
movements.
=20
The candidate will be part of the Department of Cognitive =
Psychology (Jan Theeuwes). There will be collaboration with the Research =
Institute Neurosciences VU (RINVU) of the Faculty of Medicine (Menno =
Witter), with the Department of Biological Psychology (Dorret Boomsma) =
and with the Department of Clinical Neuropsychology (Joseph Sergeant). =
The focus of the research will be on functional neuroanatomical =
information derived from neuroimaging methods such as fMRI and MEG. The =
candidate will have access to various state of the art imaging equipment =
(including a 1.5 Tesla MRI scanner and a 151 channel whole head MEG =
system). There is a large staff of technical support to operate the =
equipment.=20
=20
The lab is located in Amsterdam. Starting time is relatively =
flexible. Individuals in the area of cognitive (neuro) psychology =
related to visual perception and attention who have a strong research =
program (particularly in fMRI imaging) are encouraged to apply. Please =
send a CV, a summary of past research experience, and a letter =
explaining current interest in this position. (email is fine). The =
deadline for sending in applications is JANUARY 31, 2000
