RESEARCH ASSOCIATE POSITION IN VISION SCIENCE
A neuroscience laboratory at the Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute in
San Francisco has an opening for a Postdoctoral Fellow / Research
Associate, available by April 2000. The appointment will be initially for
one year, with the possibility of extension.
This NIH-funded position is in the Kasamatsu Laboratory which studies the
functional organization of striate visual cortex and its development in the
normal and abnormal rearing conditions. The successful applicant will be
primarily involved in work on "the roles of neurotrophins in the
regulation of ocular dominance plasticity in immature visual cortex".
Applicants who hold a Ph.D., M.D. or D.V.M. degree or the equivalent are
expected to have practical knowledge and experience in extracellular
recording single-cell activity. The lack of experience may be covered by
the commitment to the project. Basic knowledge in biochemistry and
pharmacology is required. Experience in computer programming is preferable.
The Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute is an independent, non-profit
research organization located at California Pacific Medical Center in
Pacific Heights, San Francisco and is known nationally and internationally
for vision research (www.ski.org). Salary commensurates with experience.
