                     Neural Computation ("Neuroinformatik")
(succession Prof. Dr. W. von Seelen)

The Ruhr-Universität Bochum offers a wide-ranging spectrum of subjects
in the natural sciences, humanities, engineering and medicine. The
Institut für Neuroinformatik is interdisciplinary in scope and is a
central research institute of the University. By developing models for
functional aspects of the central nervous system and experimentally
realizing artificial systems the institute contributes on the one hand
to the elucidation of the function and development of the brain, and
on the other to technical applications. Current research concentrates
on computer vision and robot control in natural environments. In terms
of methodology, emphasis is on computer experiments and the analytical
and numerical treatment of learning dynamical systems.

The appointee is expected to carry his or her share in administration,
teaching and development of the Institute, to build and lead a large
research team, and to attract research funding. There is the
possibility to cooperate with ZN GmbH, a spin-off of the
Institute. Applicants are expected to have a proven track record of
scientific research and experience in leading a research team. It is
expected that the appointee will join one of the departments of the
University, depending on his or her specific field.

The Ruhr-Universität Bochum aims at raising its percentage of females
and encourages qualified women to apply.
