Subject: Meeting on vision and rendering of material properties
There will be a session on "Vision and Rendering of Material Properties" as
part of the "Human Vision and Electronic Imaging VI (Ei10)" program of the
SPIE 13th Annual Symposium Electronic Imaging 2001, 21-26 jan 01 at San
Jose. It will be an opportunity to get people from the human vision,
machine vision and graphics communities together on this increasingly
important topic.
Time is pressing though: abstracts (500w) are due by june 26th, a
manuscript by december 18th. See the website at www.spie.org/info/ei/ for
details.)
Suitable topics are the human or machine recogition of material properties
(physical correlates of such ill defined visual attributes as "gloss",
"sheen", "translucency", "color", "texture" ("furry", "glassy", "sandy",
...), "sparkle", "dullness", "metallic look", "wet look", "atmospheric
perspective" and a great many others) and the rendering of the same in
graphics. Either theoretical or empirical contributions are welcome.
