Subject: Research Positions 3-D Object Perception
Dear Hoover,
Could you please post the following announcement?
Thanks,
Johan Wagemans.
TWO POSITIONS FOR RESEARCHERS ON 3-D OBJECT PERCEPTION are available at
the University of Leuven, Belgium. One position is for a postdoctoral
researcher with considerable experience in experimental psychology
(preferrably specialized in visual perception), visual neuroscience
(preferrably specialized in single-cell neurophysiology), or engineering
(preferrably specialized in computer vision). The second position is for
a PhD student in one of these areas. Salary between 1,000 and 1,500 Euro
per month, depending on experience. Starting date ideally around
September 15 but flexible.
The project centers on aspects of 3-D object perception such as the
integration of depth cues and the use of 3-D information in object
identification. These issues will be investigated with a variety of
techniques: psychophysical experimentation on humans and monkeys,
single-cell recordings in macaque areas IT and MT/MST, mathematical and
computational modelling, etc. The new researchers will join an
established interdisciplinary research consortium around Johan Wagemans
(experimental psychology), Rufin Vogels (neurophysiology), and Luc Van
Gool (computer vision), all at the University of Leuven. They will be
situated in one of the three groups but they should be strongly
committed to interdisciplinary collaboration with the other people in
these groups who are working on related issues.

Dear Hoover,
Could you please post the following announcement?
Thanks,
Johan Wagemans.
A PhD position is available in the Department of Psychology at the University of Leuven, Belgium. Salary between 1,000 and 1,200 Euro per month, depending on experience. Starting date ideally around October 1 but flexible.
The project focusses on the use of contour fragments for the identification of pictures of everyday objects. In addition to purely perceptual aspects (e.g., curvature perception, contour integration), different forms of priming (perceptual and conceptual) will be studied too. Methods include standard experimental-psychological work on normal participants as well as fMRI on normals and brain-damaged patients.
